Ocean Kayak was born in 1971 by necessity. In need of a way to store scuba equipment while on his surfboard, Ocean Kayak Founder Tim Niemier, carved out two places, one for him to sit and the other to store his dive gear. Mr. Niemier is credited with introducing the sit-on-top kayak design that water lovers all around the world use today. Ocean Kayak is also recognized as one of the largest sit on top kayak manufacturers, selling tens of thousands of kayaks all over the world.
Don’t be fooled by the name “Ocean” Kayak. The hulls are designed for the changing waters of the ocean but they glide nicely, track straight, and turn with ease on flat and calmer waters. Ocean Kayaks are created with rotomolded plastic polyethylene, which creates a tougher more durable vessel. Before kayaks are shipped out to distributors, each vessel is water tested by quality assurance staff, ensuring every Ocean Kayak meets their high standards.
There is an Ocean Kayak suited for everyone. You can choose from single person, angler and tandem models. Single person crafts range from the 9-foot Frenzy, which is compact and stable, to the 12-foot Tetra Kayak, a sporty, sleek and low-profile model. For anglers, the 10 foot 8-inch Tetra Angler is easy to store and transport while offering a small Modular Fishing Pod in the center console, along with two rod holders and a Comfort Hybrid seat back. The 15 foot 6-inch Trident features a comfortable seating system, redesigned Modular Fishing Pod and gunnel accessories, making it an excellent choice for professional kayak anglers. Ocean Kayak also offers tandem models like the Malibu Two, a 12-foot kayak that can be paddled solo or tandem. Lastly, the Zest Two Tandem Kayak is rated one of the fastest sit-on-top tandems on the market and has tons of storage.
